Preserve a known measurement workflow
- Inventory serial, GPIB, USB or vendor interface and driver versions.
- Record instrument initialization, modes, command sequence and timing.
- Capture raw results together with displayed/exported values and units.
- Preserve configuration, calibration context and operator procedure.
- Test replacement PC or software with controlled reference inputs.
Integration testing must not silently change range, averaging, units, precision or state. Calibration decisions remain separate from software connectivity.
Choose the boundary
A supported interface gateway may preserve instrument commands while removing an obsolete PC card. Replacement software should retain raw observations, parsing rules and traceable exports. Unknown proprietary commands require passive evidence before controlled experiments.
Use measurement software, serial integration, PC replacement and the serial pillar.
