Inventory before conversion
- Group DBF with DBT/FPT memo and NDX/MDX/CDX index files.
- Determine header/version, code page and deleted-record handling.
- Reconstruct field types, decimals, dates, keys and implicit relationships.
- Inspect application code/reports for lookups, validation and calculations outside tables.
- Decide which deleted or damaged records belong in the migration scope.
Design and validate the target
Map fixed-width text, numeric precision, logical/date values and memo blobs explicitly. Normalize only where the new application can honor changed relationships. Stage the import, preserve source identifiers and reconcile counts, totals, duplicates, orphan references and representative workflows.
Rebuilding an index is not data migration, and exporting DBF rows alone does not preserve application business rules.
Use DBF recovery for damage, Visual FoxPro migration for VFP application ecosystems, recovery services and the pillar.
Provide complete files, producing application, code-page context, known totals and destination requirements.
